1. Hillside Yard Signs

Hillside installed HVAC units in Delaware for two neighbors in the summer of 2018. We placed our Hillside yard signs on both of their front yards which is customary during the A/C unit installation. We recently discovered images of our yard signs added by Google Maps. We thought this was very cool and wanted to share other cool and fascinating images caught by Google Earth.

2. The Badlands Guardian

Location: 50° 0’38.20″ N, 110° 6’48.32″ W

The Badlands Guardian (also known as Indian Head) is a geomorphological feature located near Medicine Hat in the southeast corner of Alberta, Canada. Viewed from the air, the feature has been said to resemble a human head wearing a full Aboriginal type of headdress, facing directly westward. Additional man-made structures have been said to resemble a pair of earphones worn by the figure. The apparent earphones are a road and an oil well, which were installed recently and are expected to disappear once the project is abandoned. Its scale is much larger than the figures of Mount Rushmore.

The head is a drainage feature created through erosion of soft, clay-rich soil by the action of wind and water.[The arid badlands are typified by infrequent but intense rain-showers, sparse vegetation, and soft sediments. The ‘head’ may have been created during a short period of fast erosion immediately following intense rainfall. Although the image appears to be a convex feature, it is actually concave – that is, a valley, which is formed by erosion on a stratum of clay, and is an instance of the Hollow-Face illusion. Its age is estimated to be in the hundreds of years at a minimum.

The feature was discovered in 2005 by Lynn Hickox on Google Earth.

3. Swastika-Shaped Building Complex

Hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent to make this Navy Base in California look less like a swastika. From the looks of this Google Earth photograph, though, they’re going to have to spend a lot more money than that to get the job done. Imagery via Google Earth

4. Guitar-Shaped Forest

Córdoba, Argentina

Located in the fertile agricultural region of Argentina’s ‘Pampas’ is a guitar-shaped forest made up of over 7,000 cypress and eucalyptus trees. A farmer named Pedro Martin Ureta planted the forest in memory of his wife. You can read about the touching story here.

5. Heart-Shaped Lake

6. World’s Biggest Pool

Algarrobo, Valparaíso, Chile

At 1,013 meters (3,324 ft) in length with a total area of 8 hectares (19.77 acres), the swimming pool at the San Alfonso del Mar resort in Algarrobo, Chile is the largest in the world. It was listed officially as the largest swimming pool by area in the Guinness Book of World Records in December of 2006.

The pool holds a staggering 250 million liters (66 million gallons) of water and is the equivalent to about 6,000 8-meter long pools. Located about 90 kilometers (56 miles) from Santiago, San Alfonso del Mar is a major tourist attraction and a popular destination for both Chileans and tourists from around the world.

7. A 1200 Foot Pentagram

Location: 52°28’47.1″N 62°11’08.4″E.
Why is there a huge pentagram scratched into the side of a lake in Kazakhstan? Good question.

The 1,200-foot star-shaped figure appears in Kazakhstan’s Upper Tobol Reservoir and scattered with Bronze Age-era ruins. This five-pointed star has literally been etched into the Earth’s surface, and so far, no one’s been able to explain why or how it got there!

8. Jesus in Hungary

Location: Latitude 57°12’52.13″N, Longitude 4°34’14.16″W

To balance the pentagram, we added the debatable face of Jesus found on Google Earth. 26-year-old, Zach Evans, recognized Jesus’ image as he trawled the map site looking for holiday destinations. The bearded messiah can be seen clearly in satellite pictures of a field on farmland near Puspokladany, Hungary.
