Leadership Team

Jim Sellers
Owner / President

Jim’s grandparents Bill & Maxine Sellers started Hillside in 1952 to service the fuel needs of farmers in Fair Hill, Maryland and Southern Chester County, Pennsylvania. Jim’s mother and father took over Hillside in 1970. They moved the company to Newark immediately after, and by 1978 Hillside was in our location on Brookhill Drive where we still are today. Jim, born in 1974, was raised in the family business. Today, he is happy and proud to continue operating the company in his family’s name, and to see the company continuing to provide the best possible customer service and relationships possible.

Jim’s free time is spent traveling and exploring the great outdoors, including hiking, camping, biking, disc golf, spending time with his wife and dogs, and collecting Taylor Swift friendship bracelets. It’s also been said that he has somewhat of a green thumb, as he enjoys tending his ever-evolving garden.

Bill Tuerke
Operations Manager
Billy has been with Hillside since 2001. His entire professional life (and generations of his family prior) has been spent working in small family businesses, where excellent customer service is so very important. This is obvious when you hear his demeanor and attitude toward customers both on the phone and in person. Billy’s example guides all of our team members, and has resulted in the great comments and reviews we regularly receive. He has truly solidified himself as an essential cog in the Hillside Wheel.

In his free time, Billy and his family like to pack up an RV and go hightailing it across the country looking for fun and adventure. Ask him sometime – they really did live the American adventure dream!

Jerry Oakes
Service Manager
Jerry started out with Hillside as a helper close to 25 years ago. He’s grown his skills through coursework and on the job experience, and along the way earned his Journeyman certification. Now after hard work and experience he is one of the most knowledgeable and creative people in our industry. Jerry now leads our entire service team, training them in the “Hillside way” and ensuring that every job is done right.

When he’s not working he enjoys snowboarding, hiking, camping, biking and listening to music. He’s also spends time working on his 1986 VW Vanagon, in hopes of traveling with it one day.

Customer Service

KC
Customer Service Representative
KC came to us in 2016 with 8 years’ experience in the oil & HVAC business, and is a vital member of our customer service team. When we say “real people still answer our phones” – that’s KC, and her caring and thoughtful nature always comes through when dealing with our customers.
In her spare time she enjoys reading, kayaking, going to the beach and camping with her Husband in their VW Bus.
Shari
Customer Service Representative
A lifelong Delaware resident, Shari came to us with twenty-six years’ experience in the oil/HVAC business. She prides herself on making sure that all our customers are left satisfied with every interaction with our company.
She enjoys reading, spending time with her grandkids, and traveling. One of her favorite things to do is take day trips with her husband and a group of her friends to new and unusual places.
John
Service Dispatcher
John Davis is a lifelong resident of Cecil County. He enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter (Cecil County’s cutest child). John has a multifaceted background and is quickly finding his place on the Hillside Heating and Cooling team. When John’s not on an adventure with his family or on the phone helping our customers reach solutions, he can usually be found somewhere on the side of a mountain or in the forest sharpening his mycology skills while foraging for wild fungi.

HVAC SERVICE TEAM

Mike

Tom
HVAC Service Technician
Tom began his HVAC career in 2005 with another local company. After hoping to find a company that had more in common with his personality and goals, he was fortunate enough to join Hillside 4 years ago, and has appreciated the integrity and honesty of our company, and flexibility he wanted in a work atmosphere.
Outside of work, Tom enjoys watching his son’s hockey games, weekend BBQs and spending time with family at the beach or in the mountains where he takes ATV expeditions and learns the ins and outs of camping
Mike
HVAC Service Technician
Mike has his universal refrigerant license and is A2L refrigerant certified, and is less than a year off from being a Journeyman. He says his favorite part of working at Hillside is “getting to meet and talk to all of our awesome and interesting customers, and their animals.”

In his spare time, Mike is an avid hiker, having hiked plenty of mountains. He also enjoys collecting vinyl records.

Hillside HVAC Tech John
John
HVAC Service Technician
John has been with Hillside since 2021 and came to the company with 7 years of HVAC experience, 3 years of trade experience, and he is currently working on his Journeyman’s license. His two favorite things about working at Hillside is the team atmosphere with his co-workers, and working with Hillside’s customers, who he says are “some of the nicest people I’ve met.”
When he isn’t working, John enjoys playing adult league baseball, going hunting and camping, and enjoying being outside in cold weather.
Jack (Hill)

With forty years experience, he has seen many changes occur in the HVAC business. Having served in a few roles at Hillside, Tom now is our Warehouse Manager, keeping us always in-stock with parts and supplies for our service jobs.

sean oil driver
Sean
Fuel Dispatcher
Sean is one of our newest delivery drivers and is quickly becoming a customer favorite. Don’t miss the story of how during one of his customer deliveries he found and returned a couple’s wedding ring that had been lost for more than a year. Customer service indeed! Sean was top in his class during his CDL courses, and holds a CDL A license with hazmat, tanker, and double and triple trailer combination.
In his spare time, Sean is a photographer, and also enjoys collecting old trains and old movies. He and his wife have a horse, 2 ducks, and 2 cats – quite the menagerie!
Charlie
Oil Delivery Driver
Charlie started at Hillside as a home fuel delivery driver twenty-seven years ago and now drives a tanker delivering bulk fuel throughout Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Charlie is responsible for keeping Hillside’s quarter-million gallon tank farm stocked for our trucks, and for other companies to purchase on-site from Hillside.
When he is not in the tanker and the nice weather hits he chooses two wheels and rides his motorcycle every chance he gets. He spends his free time with his family going fishing and going to truck races. He is also one of the many company pranksters…The primary prankster to be exact.
Jesse
Oil Delivery Driver
Jesse has been a part of Hillside’s oil delivery team for 9 years, and enjoys the opportunity to meet and interact with so many of our customers.
Rick
Mechanic / Fleet Maintenance
With forty-one years experience as a truck mechanic, Rick keeps the Hillside fleet of vehicles running in top shape.
He spends most of his spare time at home with his wife of 39 years and his family taking care of their many animals. He has been raising Koi fish, chickens, pheasants, goats and parrots for many years. When he is not taking care of the animals he likes to take rides in the country on his motorcycle.
Frank (In Memoriam)
Mechanic / Fleet Maintenance
Frank is a dearly missed member of the Hillside family, and was with Hillside for thirty years (or as he liked to put it since Jimmy Sellers was a little fellow) until his passing. He kept the oil delivery trucks and fleet of service vehicles in the best working order and ready at all times. He enjoyed woodworking and made many intricate scroll workpieces including a clock. He spent his free weekends at Rehoboth beach with his wife going out on a boat to fish and relax, riding motorcycles, and going to truck races. He’s also a lot of where Hillside gets its sense of humor, and he was one of the many company pranksters…. The primary prankster to be exact! We try to honor Frank’s memory every day by not taking ourselves too seriously, but always focusing on excellent service and caring for our customers.

Marketing Team

Matt Urban
Director of Marketing
Matt has been employed with Hillside since 2023, but his roots with the company go back much further. In his prior life running a marketing agency, he was instrumental in redeveloping the Hillside logo and brand image close to 20 years ago, and since then has worked on producing all of our TV commercials, a prior version of our website, and other important marketing & advertising initiatives. Now a proud member of the Hillside family, he focuses on making Hillside a household name in the region, and leading all of our marketing, advertising, and community sponsorships.
Matt is also a professional musician (drummer) with The Rock Orchestra and Echoes, The American Pink Floyd, enjoys spending time with his wife riding roller coasters and visiting Halloween haunts, and has a daughter who has just started her college journey.
Mike Barrick
Designer / Webmaster
Mike began with Hillside in 2019, and is our in-house designer, webmaster, and social media content manager. We’re very fortunate to have Mike on-board with us as he possesses a rare blend of strengths in design, content, and technology. He very quickly learned the Hillside “brand voice” – and enjoys applying our lighthearted, friendly, and welcoming approach to all of our special posts, e-blasts, and newsletters.
Mike is an avid basketball player, devoted husband, and father. He spends his spare time coaching local youth basketball teams and training his sons
