Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD)

What is Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel (ULSD)?

ULSD is a cleaner diesel fuel with sulfur content reduced to 15 parts per million (ppm) or less, which is 97% lower than older diesel fuels with 500 ppm sulfur. Reducing sulfur helps eliminate particulates, or soot, which contribute to diesel engines’ black exhaust and air pollution. The shift to ULSD improves air quality by lowering harmful emissions from diesel engines.

Why Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel (ULSD)?

The biggest advantage of ULSD is that it burns cleaner, reducing pollution and extending the life of engines designed for it. ULSD works with emission control devices on many vehicles to further reduce harmful exhaust.
The EPA highlights several benefits of ULSD, including improved public health, lower carbon emissions, and environmental protection. ULSD has a sulfur content limit of 15 ppm and is required for all on-road diesel engines from the 2007 model year onward.

Benefits of Switching to ULSD:

  • Healthier workplace: ULSD reduces the long-term risks of heart and lung disease, asthma, and other respiratory conditions.
  • Longer-lasting equipment: It extends the lifespan of your equipment, leading to fewer repairs and oil changes.
  • Regulatory compliance: Your fleet will be better prepared for future EPA regulations, ensuring compliance and reducing future costs.
