The Birth of Photography
On January 9, 1839, Louis-Jacques Daguerre introduced the Daguerreotype photo process to the French Academy of Science. This method became the most popular photographic process worldwide for two decades.
One of Daguerre’s most famous works is a photograph of Boulevard du Temple in Paris. Due to long exposure times, moving objects like carriages and pedestrians didn’t register, leaving only a man having his shoes shined and the shoeshiner as the first known subjects in a photograph of a person.
Daguerre famously declared:
“I have seized the light – I have arrested its flight!”
The Day Smartphones Changed the World
Fast forward to January 9, 2007, when Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone at Apple’s Macworld conference. Combining a cellphone, mobile internet, and iPod in one device, the iPhone revolutionized how we interact with technology.
