Welcome_Fall

Welcome Autumn 2018. The autumnal equinox starts this Saturday, September 22, 2018, at exactly 9:54 P.M. EDT and marks what we call Fall (aka Autumn). Fall brings relief after the hot summer yet prepares for the frigid and dangerous winter ahead. Daytime decreases and nighttime increases. The beautiful Fall foliage isn’t due to weather conditions as commonly mistaken. Leaves change color because of the amount of daylight and photosynthesis. The leaves stop their food-making process. The chlorophyll breaks down, the green color disappears, and the yellow to orange colors become visible and give the leaves part of their fall splendor.Nothing Gold Can StayRobert Frost Nature’s first green is gold,Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf.So Eden sank to grief,So dawn goes down to day.Nothing gold can stay.

A Closer Look at Oil Prices

Dear Friends,

As you know, the price you pay for heating oil can change quite a bit from year to year. That’s because the market price of oil is tied to factors that are always in flux.

The price of crude oil is the most important factor in heating oil pricing. Heating oil, gasoline, and diesel fuel are among the many products refined from crude oil. Because crude oil is a globally traded commodity, many different forces can drive its value up or down.

A major hurricane that temporarily closes key refineries, an international crisis—or the potential for one—these are situations that can influence the market. Although such events may not actually lead to fuel shortages, prices around the country can all rise because of speculation in the stock market about what could happen in the weeks and months afterward. This is often referred to as the fear factor.

Locally, seasonal demand, operational costs (such as overtime) and even competition between dealers can result in price variation.

All of this is beyond our control, but, as a Hillside customer, you can always count on a fair rate. Plus, we have ways of helping you control your heating costs. Please take a look in this newsletter for some suggestions that can make your life much easier this winter.

Warmly,
Jim Sellers
