Fun Facts April 19

It’s Friday Fun Facts: On April 10, 2020

Good Friday is the Friday before Easter Day.

Scholars claim that the term Easter derives from the Anglo-Saxon word “oster,” meaning “to rise,” or their term for the Spring equinox, “Eostre.”

It’s an Unofficial Holiday: Some schools and banks may be closed, but Good Friday isn’t observed nationwide. Only 12 states acknowledge this day, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

In Medieval Europe, Christians would abstain from eating eggs and meat during Lent. Eggs laid during that time were often boiled to preserve them and were given as Easter gifts to children and servants.

Cadbury’s was started in 1824, and they made their first  Easter Egg in 1875.

We hope you have a Good Friday.
