Ah, that special time of year, from October to January, when people celebrate the most popular holidays–Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The most controversial question is which of these three is the best.
Halloween vs. Thanksgiving vs. Christmas
All three holidays are known for a wide array of traditions; Halloween for costumes, scares, and everyone’s favorite way of getting candy, Trick-or-Treating; Thanksgiving for food, football, and family gathering; Christmas for family traditions, gift-giving, and joyful festivities. So, which is the best holiday? Let the battle begin.
Battle of Decorations
Each holiday has one thing in common; decorations. Christmas and Halloween are on almost even ground when it comes to decorations, with Thanksgiving at an immediate disadvantage. Halloween has costumes, Jack-o-lanterns, spiderwebs, skeletons, and ghosts meant to scare people. Christmas has colorful decorations, lights, stockings, evergreen trees, pine cones, ornaments, and angels designed to bring joy and cheer. In this round, Christmas takes first place, Halloween second, and Thanksgiving third.
Battle of Food
Let’s give this round to Thanksgiving. No? Thanksgiving is a feast spearheaded by a turkey, various side dishes, and pies accompanying it. Halloween is somewhat hindered because there’s no main dish besides candy. However, let’s not forget it has candied apples, caramel corn, and pumpkin-spiced-flavored snacks and drinks. Christmas dinner usually consists of many of the same foods as Thanksgiving. It does, however, have candy canes, cookies, peppermint-flavored foods and beverages, egg nog, and lots of cookies. So the winner of the food round is Thanksgiving, with Christmas being the runner-up and Halloween coming in dead last (get it? dead last). Unless you ask anyone under 12.
Battle of Films, T.V., and the Media
All three holidays are widespread throughout all areas of media. Thanksgiving is at an overwhelming disadvantage, with not much going on regarding film and T.V. beyond a parade and a Charlie Brown special.
Scary movies, a popular year-round genre, intensify in popularity during Halloween. October is a hotbed for new horror film releases. However, Christmas is arguably the most popular, having its own film category. From Home Alone and Elf to classics like Miracle on 34th Street, how can you defeat Rudolph, Frosty, Santa, and the Grinch? We haven’t mentioned the month-long Christmas music on the radio. The winner of the entertainment round is Christmas, followed by Halloween and Thanksgiving, a distant third.
