Sean’s House: A Beacon of Hope for Mental Health
2021 began positively for PAWS for People with opening a new site at Sean’s House in Newark, Delaware. This mental health haven offers support to young adults aged 14 to 24 who are navigating challenges like academics, anxiety, homesickness, or mental illness.
Inspired by the PAWS DeStress events she attended at the University of Delaware, Molly Fulton, Director of Operations at Sean’s House, reached out to PAWS for People to request pet therapy sessions at the site. On January 4, PAWS team Jimmy Sellers and Emmy Lou made the first visit—and they were an instant hit!
Guests at Sean’s House adhered to COVID-19 protocols while enjoying therapeutic interactions with the pets, which provided comfort and connection during difficult times.
About Sean’s House and SL24: Unlocke the Light Foundation
The SL24 created Sean’s House: Unlocke the Light Foundation in memory of Sean Locke, who tragically lost his battle with depression in 2018, just before his 24th birthday. The foundation’s mission is to provide 24/7 peer support and resources to University of Delaware students and any young adults in the area who need a listening ear and a safe space to talk.
