DON’T MOVE. IMPROVE.
Hey friends! It’s Jimmy here, and this is the “DIY” Home Improvement edition. I’m excited to share valuable tips and tricks that will help improve your home without the need to move. We all know how stressful and challenging moving can be, so I’m thrilled to offer DIY solutions to maximize your space and increase your home’s value without relocating.
One of the best ways to achieve this is through remodeling, which can add square footage and functionality to your existing home. The possibilities are endless, whether converting your garage into a usable living space, finishing your basement to create an additional entertainment area, or renovating your attic into a cozy retreat.
We’ll discuss investing in a new heat pump or central air system. These upgrades make your home more comfortable and efficient, saving you money on energy bills in the long run, and they can also increase your home’s value. It’s a win-win situation!
If you have an older home without ductwork, adding some can make a significant difference in your home’s comfort and energy efficiency. It can increase the value of your home, making it a wise investment for the future. Alternatively, a great option is to choose to install a ductless mini-split system. So, whether you add ductwork or use ductless mini-splits, you’ll enjoy improved comfort and efficiency in your home.
Finally, we’ll also discuss the importance of keeping detailed maintenance records. Even though it may seem insignificant, keeping maintenance records of your home’s heating and cooling systems can increase your home’s value.
So, my friends, if you’re ready to elevate your living space and invest in your home’s future, look no further. Keep reading for some fantastic tips and tricks on how to take your home to the next level. Remember, don’t move – improve!

The Science-Backed Ways To
MAKE HOME A HAPPIER PLACE TO BE
Freshen up your home to create a happy and healthy living space—essential for our overall well-being. Our homes play a vital role in our daily lives, serving as a sanctuary where we can relax and recharge. But did you know our design, organization, and maintenance can significantly impact our mental and physical health?
Growing scientific evidence suggests that our living spaces can significantly affect our moods and psychological health. Studies have shown that natural light can boost our mood and productivity, while a lack of natural light can lead to feelings of depression and anxiety. Specific colors and textures can also influence our emotions. In addition, clutter and disorganization can increase stress and anxiety levels.
On the other hand, an organized and clean living space can promote a sense of control and peace of mind. However, it’s not just the design and organization of our homes that affect our mental and physical health.
Impact of Natural Light on Mood and Productivity: The presence of natural light has been associated with positive effects on mood, well-being, and productivity. Exposure to natural light can help regulate circadian rhythms, improve sleep quality, and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Some studies suggest that access to natural light in the workplace can enhance job satisfaction and performance (e.g., Boubekri et al., 2014; Chellappa et al., 2011).
Influence of Colors and Textures on Emotions: Colors and textures in our living spaces can evoke different emotional responses. This field of study is known as color psychology. While individual preferences can vary, certain colors have been found to have general effects on emotions. For example, warm colors like red and orange can be stimulating and energizing, while cool colors like blue and green can promote relaxation and calmness (e.g., Kwallek et al., 1997; Valdez and Mehrabian, 1994). Textures and materials can also affect emotional responses, such as soft textures promoting comfort and hard textures conveying a sense of stability (e.g., Manav, 2013).
Impact of Clutter and Disorganization on Stress and Anxiety: Studies have indicated that clutter and disorganization in our living spaces can contribute to increased levels of stress and anxiety. Clutter can create visual distractions, hinder productivity, and make it difficult to relax. Research suggests that reducing clutter and maintaining an organized environment can improve mental well-being and reduce stress levels (e.g., Saxbe and Repetti, 2010; Roster and Ferrari, 2011).
HVAC Systems and Indoor Air Quality: Poorly maintained HVAC systems can lead to issues with indoor air quality, potentially resulting in various health problems. Dust, allergens, and pollutants can accumulate in the system and be circulated within the living space. This can contribute to respiratory problems, allergies, and headaches. Regular maintenance and cleaning of HVAC systems are crucial for ensuring good indoor air quality and a healthy living environment (e.g., Sundell et al., 2011; World Health Organization, 2009).
To create a joyful and healthy living space, paying attention to your home’s details is crucial. Every aspect matters, from the amount of natural light to the colors you choose, your level of organization, and even the quality of indoor air.

Super Easy and Affordable Way To
PROTECT YOUR COMFORT
Prepping your air conditioner for spring and summer is as simple as scheduling our annual A/C Tune-Up. Our 15+ point A/C tune-up will remove any dirt and debris that built up within the system throughout the year. As a result, we’ll have your air conditioning unit running efficiently! Not only will your A/C perform better, helping you save money on your utility bill, but this preventative maintenance will also help you avoid unexpected breakdowns.
If equipment replacement is required or a customer upgrades their equipment, Hillside will apply the credit toward the replacement installation cost.
Hillside offers two different A/C maintenance plans. A plan is available for any need and all budgets. Hillside offers an industry-standard maintenance plan at a very affordable annual cost. This plan covers 15% off all services performed by Hillside. A more inclusive 50% plan with an annual tune-up is also available-non-covered services and parts billed at regular service rates. The percentage off coverage applies to parts and labor associated with repairs or replacements of defective parts due to normal wear and tear.
Which DIY Project Makes $ense?
BEST HOME IMPROVEMENTS YOU CAN ENJOY NOW & FOR RESALE VALUE LATER
Did you know that upgrading your home with a DIY (or professional) remodel can improve your quality of life and provide a great return on investment in the future? According to a Zillow Report, 76% of Americans would rather upgrade their home to meet their needs than use a down payment on a new home. In addition, by renovating key areas of your home, such as the kitchen, bathroom, or outdoor spaces, you can significantly increase its value and appeal to potential buyers.
Kitchens. The kitchen is the heart of the home. A beautiful, updated kitchen can make a big impact on the overall value of your home. A well-designed and updated kitchen can make your home more attractive to potential buyers and improve the functionality and enjoyment of the space for you and your family. However, the actual ROI of a kitchen remodel can vary depending on the scope of the renovation, quality of materials used, and local real estate market conditions.
Bathroom. Buyers are always on the lookout for a stylish and functional bathroom. Upgrading fixtures, lighting, and finishes in your bathroom can enhance its aesthetic appeal and functionality. A stylish and functional bathroom can add value to your home and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Again, the actual ROI will depend on factors such as the extent of the renovations and the local real estate market.
Outdoor spaces. Outdoor spaces, such as decks, patios, and landscaped yards, can significantly improve the curb appeal of your home and provide additional living space. Creating an inviting outdoor oasis can attract potential buyers and enhance your own enjoyment of the property. However, the ROI for outdoor renovations can also depend on factors like the quality of the improvements and the preferences of buyers in your area.
DIY Renovations and Personal Satisfaction: DIY renovations can offer cost-saving opportunities and a sense of accomplishment. By taking on certain projects yourself, you can potentially reduce labor costs and have a greater sense of control over the outcome. This can lead to increased satisfaction and pride in your home. However, it’s important to recognize your own skill level and consider hiring professionals for complex or specialized tasks. It’s crucial to conduct thorough research, consult local real estate experts, and consider the specific characteristics of your home and market before undertaking any major renovation projects. The ROI of home renovations can vary, and it’s important to carefully assess the potential benefits and costs in your specific situation.
Renovating your home can improve your daily life and increase its value. DIY options can save you money and boost your sense of accomplishment. It can also enhance your everyday living experience by making your space more functional, comfortable, and enjoyable.
Comfort Corner
CENTRAL TO ANY FIXER UPPER PROJECT
While watching the show “Fixer Upper,” I realized that no home renovation project is complete without a new A/C system! Chip and Joanna always prioritize comfort in their designs. When renovating your home, consider your comfort by ensuring that the house has proper cooling.
Why upgrading your cooling system may be a good idea for you now:
Comfort Upgrade: A new heat pump effectively manages heat and moisture levels in your home, creating a consistently comfortable environment.
Energy Savings: A new high-efficiency heat pump, properly measured and installed, can save you up to 20% on your energy bills compared to traditional heating systems.
Air Quality Upgrade: A new heat pump reduces the presence of pollen, dust, mold, bacteria, and other pollutants in your indoor air, resulting in improved air quality.
Reduced Noise: A new heat pump operates significantly quieter than older heating systems, ensuring a peaceful and noise-free environment.
Home Value: Besides comfort, adding a new A/C system can increase your home’s resale value. Why? Homebuyers often prioritize comfort and convenience, and having air conditioning can be a significant selling point. Adding a new central air unit to a home can be a wise investment for you and future homeowners, making the house more comfortable and appealing to potential buyers. Energy Star homes sell three months faster and at a higher price per square foot.
There are several reasons why potential homebuyers would appreciate a new air conditioning (A/C) system already installed in a house.
Convenience and Immediate Comfort: A new A/C system means that the buyers can move into the home and start enjoying cool and comfortable temperatures immediately without needing additional installations or repairs. It saves them time, effort, and potential expenses for replacing an old or malfunctioning system.
Energy Efficiency: Newer A/C systems are typically more energy-efficient than older models. Homebuyers appreciate this because it can lower energy bills and reduce environmental impact. Energy-efficient systems use advanced technology and feature such as programmable thermostats, improved insulation, and variable-speed compressors to optimize cooling while consuming less electricity.
Warranty Coverage: A new A/C system often comes with a manufacturer’s warranty, providing buyers with peace of mind in case of any issues or malfunctions. A warranty can save potential homeowners from unexpected repair or replacement costs during the initial years of owning the property.
Increased Home Value: Upgraded features like a new A/C system can enhance the property’s overall value. Buyers may perceive the house as well-maintained and up-to-date, making it more appealing than other homes on the market. A newer A/C system could also be a selling point if the house is located in a region with hot climates, as it demonstrates that the property is equipped to handle the weather conditions effectively.
Long-Term Savings: Installing a new A/C system eliminates the immediate need for buyers to spend money on a replacement or repairs. By having a reliable and efficient system already in place, they can allocate their funds toward other expenses or investments related to the home.
Enhanced Indoor Air Quality: New A/C systems often have improved air filtration and purification features, promoting better indoor air quality. This is particularly valuable for individuals with allergies, respiratory conditions, or pollution concerns. Buyers appreciate having cleaner and healthier air circulating throughout their new homes.
Overall, a new A/C system already installed in a house offers convenience, energy efficiency, warranty coverage, increased home value, long-term savings, and better indoor air quality. These factors can make the property more appealing to potential homebuyers and contribute to their overall satisfaction with their purchase. Take advantage of our Summer Air Conditioning Specials.
